Why do I care about bicycle infrastructure?

Do you want to live in a livable city? I do. A livable city  is one in which public spaces are safe and inviting for people to go about their business and where alternative means of transportation are available.

There is a national surge in the recognition of the humble bicycle as a means for transportation. For shorter trips, it’s all you need. For extended trips, it can provide for the first and last mile in combination with trains or buses.

For me, using the bicycle is also about turning travel time into an enjoyable experience. Take the video in this post, for instance, which shows my kids going to the library. We could have gone by car, in which the ten-minute trip would have been a chore. The 20-minute bike ride, on the other hand, is a destination in itself and one in a series of trips that bring us us closer as a family.
